Straight extension aerobars in production!

Velonews said a production version of the “Lance” straight extension aerobars will be available for consumers by May/June. Not sure when that will really be though.

It shouldn’t be too hard to cut off the ends.

trijunior,

Does this mean Hed is the manufacturer?

Doesn’t Deda Elementi produce the USPS aerobars? It would probably be them I would think?

At last report, the “Lance” one piece integrated aerobar was to be sold under the Bontrager label and distributed through the Trek companies such as Fisher, LeMond, Klein, Trek and Bontrager as well as Trek’s component distributor, TCG.

No other information has sufaced since I heard that last fall. My inclination is to say don’t hold your breath.

We should have “straight” protypes in aluminum back from the tubing bender any day. The bars are not entirely straight they have some bending to them. They should be in small time production soon, maybe as fast as 6 weeks. we have already progressed from a big pile of aluminum tubing and a conduit bender to the stage of having someone who knows how to bend pipes with good looking and repeatable results make some prototypes from our crude first parts. We tried a lot of different bends the ones we liked best are being prototyped, I took 20 feet of tubing to a local metal shop last week. Assuming the prototypes don’t need any other tweaking, the next step is to source a whole bunch of tubing and decide what kind of finish it should have. After that they are ready for sale. Alloy extensions first, carbon ones may follow if they can be made enough lighter than the alloy ones. At first these extensions they will be an add-on you will have to request them and maybe pay a few dollars extra, until we get some economies of scale going and the manufacting costs come down. I have been playing around this week with making a pair of straight extension aerobars. Thanks Tom for the idea. I have a pair of Profile Jammer GT’s for my road bike. I also had a pair of straight bars from my FSR XC laying around the house. I took the bars to work and had the guys in the machine shop cut them in half. I then took the extensions from the GT’s off the bars and put the straight extensions on last night. They felts great on the trainer. It really did not cost me a thing to try this out. Ala Bunnyman and Tom, I have been able to read about the modifications they make and try them myself. I like this set-up but will probably add a bridge to the end to clean up the look. I will make the bridge at work also. Nice being a manager and asking the guys to whip something up in Delrin or UHMW to fit in the end.
