Straight aerobars and their limitations

The woman in my life DOES go the distance.

I’ve been riding with an essentially straight handgrip for years, but just never bothered to cut off the ends. I might just do that.

For comfort, there are a couple of keys.

  1. The level of the bar needs to be as close as possible to the level of the pad. armrest risers do not work for this application.

  2. The pads need to be set back as far as possible, to reduce the angle of the riders wrist, ie allow the forearms to tilt a little bit.

I will have to do a bit of fiddling, then. I had wondered about the angles of the armrests. My armrests are pretty much flat to the basebar. Thanks for the siggestions.

I agree. I’ve been experimenting with the grip over the last few months. In short TT’s it’s fine as you ‘lock your upper body’ into position and you feel powerful, however in a longer tri I wouldn’t risk the extra fatigue.
