Storage solution for Cervelo P2/P3

Dear users,

I am the happy owner of a Cervelo P3 (2014) with all the pro´s and con´s that comes with it.

One of the things which seems to be a challenge with this frame is the lack of slick and good looking storage solutions. Especially for all the tools and spares needed in AG long distance racing.
Before a race I did this past weekend I succeeded in mounting a modified bottle cage below the down tube. The bottle cage is secured in the threaded holes originally intended for e.g. an external Di2 battery:

The above solution worked out well. However, the storage bottle cannot hold all my spares, it looks a bit clumsy and aerodynamics are probably an issue as well. There are other storage solutions already available. Some of them are mounted within the frame and restricts the athlete from mounting an aero bottle in the frame. I therefore reached out to Yann from www.custombikexcessories.com and asked for a better solution. He came up with the below draft which kinda mimics some of the storage solutions seen on the P5X:

The above design belongs to Yann and I am posting it here with his permission. We are hoping to find at least a handful of P2/P3 riders (with frames already equipped with the necessary threaded holes) who would be interested in sharing the costs for developing a similar storage box. We hope to develop a storage box with the following preliminary features:
Holding a folded tubular tire, 2 pcs of 16 gram CO2 cartridges, a small multi tool and maybe one can of Vittoria Pitstop (or similar)A solid side opening door for easy access to the spares and toolsFlush mounted on the frame.Solid material strong enough to withstand impacts from whatever your front wheel will throw at the box.

I have a P2 but I use a DI2 so I don’t think this would work for me personally. I struggle with finding a storage solution as well, seeing that I use the xlab turbowing on my seat and a speedfil F1 in my frame (not the most aero by any means, but I’m new to IM and this works for me currently). I would LOVE a storage solution for the back of the seat similar to what he makes for the P5, as I think I could make that fit with the turbowing. One can dream…

Seems like a good idea, but a solution to a problem already solved by other means (BtA bottle, behind the seat, top tube, etc). It also seems like this could be an aerodynamic penalty, as that area does catch some air.

I have one of Yann’s boxes currently on my P2 and think its great. I personally am not interested in this set up, but wanted to share my positive experience with Yann and Custom Bike Xcessories. Good luck!

Why not go with the styles he’s already created? Above the BB & Behind the seatpost

Seems like those would be less of an aero penalty and more convenient too

As Morten said, I’m willing to take on the challenge of trying to come up with a suitable box design for that spot under the down tube.

Fortunately, a friend of mine has a P3 that I could use to measure and fit prototype on. The big question is durability, since it will be exposed to whatever the front wheel kicks up as you ride. For that, I plan on doubling the thickness of the walls relative to the current boxes I sell.

Also, if you do have a di2 battery in that spot, you would be able to put the box on and mount the di2 battery inside the box, therefore not losing the ability to mount the battery.

As i said, I’m willing to develop a box, if others are interested and willing to preorder a box, I will do it.

The problem is that the rear brake is in the way on the p3, on a 56 or 58, that might not be as bad, but on the smaller frames, the box would end up being tiny.

Looking at my bike you’re on point there. I’m on a 54 and don’t have the seat raised very high, so I can understand why it won’t work. It looks like my only option for extra storage (instead of wrapping spares to my rear cage) is top tube.
