I’m not a roadie, I don’t even really consider myself a Triathlete. I’m just a fish-out-of-water. So what is it with all this roadie bashing. So what if you pass a guy without Aerobars wearing a Team-Jearsey and he/she does not wave to you? Who cares? Triathlon is a different sport than Cycling. That would be like comparing Football with Basketball, just because both sports use a ‘ball’ does not mean they are the same or similar sport.
Are we Triathletes so insecure that if someone does not wave at us or hug us during group rides that we take offence? Stop the crying!
On several posts on the other thread, I think I have said as much. Their certainly seems to be a fair amount of high emotion and hostility on the subject. I will repeat again that in 20 plus years of riding with a vareity of mixed groups of triathletes and road cyclists, I have never encountered any foul remarks or hostilty in either direction, so I am not sure where all this is coming from.
We’ve got around 25 regulars in our roadie group, although not everybody comes out every ride. Some rides are well attended while others are not. Of these riders, seven or eight of us are recreational trigeeks ranging from sprints to IM, four have road racing experience, three race mountain bikes and the rest are roadie enthusiasts. We also have five women in the group, three of which do triathlons. Our ages range from 23 to 62. Everybody gets along fine but we deliberately made up the rule of no riding on the aero bars in the pack for the benefit of any new trigeeks that might join.
