Stomach Issues (1)

Fellow Triathletes,
I always seem to have stomach issues after I teach my spinning classes. My stomach is unsettled and I have to use the toilet 3 - 8 times in the hour to 5 hours afterwards. Can anyone suggest any food to eat the day before, the morning of and immediately after my spinning class that may help? Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Can it be more than a food related issue?

Thank you for your help,

Mega-Certainly an unusual complaint. Many of us have been involved with countless spin classes without post-spin bathroom needs. I assume you’re speaking of bowel issues and think that discussing this with your family physician or a board certified gastroenterologist may be of benefit. Spin class is obviously important to you and there may be medications that diminish GI motility short term that are “just the ticket” for you. Good Luck. JP

do you do the spin class every day at the same time? Maybe it’s just a coincidence it happens after spin class then.

keep a food journal and definitely see a doctor.

Honestly? … this may or not be food or fluid related.

The fact that your stomach is unsettled (plus, what ever “use the toilet” actually means) ONLY? occurs after your spin class is a tad bit unusual… unless, the ONLY strenious aerobic activity you do is spin classes (…which is not typical of most spin class teachers).

Now for a WAG,… assuming this ONLY occurs with spin class…and, upset stomach means GERD-like systoms… plus, toilet useage is mostly #2 oriented…

Then, the problem made related not just to what your eating… but, most likely related to a allergic-like reaction to a sport drink in addition to your body position while riding the spin bikes… in effect, horizontal body positions (i.e., body over bars similar to an aero position… even for brief moments) plus acid-reflux makes for a bad combo.
