Hi Guys. I hope it’s ok to post this here. My fiance had his bike stolen tonight right off of the rack on the back of his car in Denver. He’s training for Ironman Wisconsin and I can’t begin to tell you how upset he is. I’m sure that guy that took the bike will try to sell it. My fiance has already made a police report, but to be honest with you, he doesn’t think that he’s got a chance to get it back. I disagree. His bike is a one of a kind and built for him. I think if we get the word out, someone is bound to see it, either in a pawn shop or at a store. It’s a 58" light blue Merlin Light with tri bars and ksyrium wheels. The front and back fork both have “Bikes, Inc” or “Bicycles, Inc” on them. There is a naked Polynesian lady decal on the front. Personally, I’ve never liked him having this volumptous female decal on his bike but it’s turning out to be a pretty good identifiier. The bike was taken around 8pm on 13th Avenue in Denver. I’m told the guy that took it was also trying to break into cars as well. I’d appreciate it if you would keep an eye out for this bicycle. If you spot it, my fiance’s email is rogerm48@earthlink.net. PS If anyone needs a jpg pic of it, I can do that too! Thanks!
Hearsawho: That totally sucks, there are a few races coming up that we’ll be on the look out for it. Have you sent this basic e-mail to some of the local tri-clubs. Bikesource has a huge club that would be a good resource. Boulder tri club, and DU also have a large member base.
Is that his only bike?
Keep us posted.
Good luck.
post the pic!
I have the picture posted on another site, can I list that site here or is that a no-no? I can’t figure out how to attach it to this post!
I haven’t even thought of posting to the local tri clubs…I’ll do that. He has another bike, but he hates it. It’s a carbon frame and he says that he doesn’t like the way it rides anymore (whatever that means). Thanks for the help. I really, really appreciate it!
you have to add the pic to a site like tiny pics or snapfish. once you have it there, just right click and copy the pic and paste it in the text frame where you type messages.
Post the other site where the pics are, that way anyone can identify this, I’ll keep an eye open in the Quebec region, this happened to my friends just last week 4 downhill racing bikes stolen from their bike lockers in whistler. They all turned up in Quebec… Weird eh???
He rode a red X in an IM?
!(file:///C:/DOCUME~1/bhorton/LOCALS~1/Temp/0.jpg)Well, that last one didn’t work too well, did it! Very funny…he rode a red X. That’s the first time I’ve laughed since his bike was taken! If this one doesn’t work, go to this site: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=133191
.
Oh man, you guys are GOOD!!!
agreed, he’s also riding in a silly gear on the flat, none the less, we’ll keep our eyes WIDE OPEN for her husbands bike.
definitely watch ebay.
what was the date it was stolen?
It was taken Monday night, August 22nd at about 8pm.
Have your fiance email me and I’ll see whether I can help him out in a pinch.
Sorry to hear about this.
Cheers
Herbert

Thank you, Herbert. I’ve sent him the link.
Herbert, here’s his reply:
Dear Herbert<
I was wondering what you might have in mind in terms of helping out. I
defintely would not want to incovenience you in anyway, but thought I’d
see what you might have in mind. Barbara (she’s the best, isn’t she!)
posted by dilemma about the stolen Merlin Extra Light on the Slowtwitch
website. thanks!! Roger Myers
(rogerm48@earthlink.net)
hearsawho: You might also want to contact Team Evergreen, and some of the other larger cycling clubs in the area. Ask them to post a notice on their web page.
Good luck.
Thanks, Ted. I really appreciate your help. My gosh, I can’t believe you could tell what gear he was in from that picture! I worked hard to find that flat for this pic too! I think I was the top of a huge climb with a very small amount of flat, leading into another climb. I tell ya, IM Switzerland is not the most spectator friendly course and from the climbs I saw, not too easy of a ride either. (For me at least, you guys could probably fly on it.)
I’m a strong believer that there is always something good to come out of the bad. I am going to suggest to Roger that he get on this forum. Ya’ll have an INCREDIBLE amount of knowledge. Without the theft of his bike, we would never have known about this!
Again, thank you so much.
