Stolen Laptop

Notice the common theme of my recent posts? Arrgh,

My wife’s laptop was stolen recently. She was using Windows Vista & had a username/password set up to log in. Your common dipshit thief isn’t going to be able to crack the Windows password - that would take someone with a little more saavy (perhaps a regular fencer of stolen computers). She said she didn’t have any credit card/bank account numbers written in any files.

Any suggestions as to what she should do next? Cancel credit card numbers just in case? Some places like Amazon keep you logged in & have your CC numbers on file. She does not have any locator software installed.

For anyone who’s been in a similar predicament, what did you do? Thanks.

Assume the worst case scenario and act accordingly.

I would cancel all cards immediately, and advise your credit reporting agency as well (they can flag your wife’s bureau ).

Getting the data from this hard drive is not difficult for someone with a bit of knowledge.

Thanks!

Go to all your sites that you log onto and change the password.

Like the previous poster stated, assume the worst.

Jumpers not needed on a laptop. I could take out that drive and start copying everything off it in less than 3 mins. Do as said above, assume the worst and act accordingly.
