Yesterday, while my husband and I were volunteering at Ironman Arizona, a thief stole my Cervelo P2 (white, red and black) and his Cervelo P2C (grey and black) bikes. We have filed a police report with Tempe Police Department. The police officer who helped us was incredibly kind and helpful. I’ve left a message with my bike shop to get our serial numbers as well as called our insurance agent to file a claim. The police detective is also going to check video surveillance from the building. She’s also going to see if she can lift some fingerprints from the Huffy bike he left behind when he took our bikes. I’m continually checking Craig’s List, eBay and now posting on Slowtwitch obviously. And apparently, all pawn shops need to run bike serial numbers with local police departments when they get a bike (assuming the asshole hasn’t taken it off). Between homeowner’s and automobile insurance, we should be fine.
But with that said, please keep on the lookout for our bikes. Thanks!
The bikes were locked up on our bike hitch. I really wanted them inside the car but my husband felt fine with them locked on the hitch. The thief left the Huffy right next to our car. It was pretty obvious.

Hmm… that’s troubling. Not that I leave my bikes out a lot on my rack, but I always thought locking them up on my rack was fairly secure. What kind of rack/hitch mount did you have and how did you have it locked?
Sorry to hear this and I hope you get your bikes back quickly and in good shape.
I seem to recall reading about bikes being stolen at a previous IM Arizona. There was a thread on the forum about it. I believe they ended up catching some young kids and the bikes were returned.
