Stolen bike confrontation

Last Saturday I had my mountain bike stolen from outside of our local running store. It was an older bike, but still had xt and xtr components and was something that I used regularly for commuting and for when I couldnèt stand the thought of another aerobar ride  After driving around all the-sketchy-parts of town (I live in Victoria Bc, not that big) and not finiding it, I relegated it to another lost love.
Anyway, I was just driving down the street in the same area, when I see a couple of street kids sitting around with something that looks remarkably like my bike (Its an Ontario brand called Thin blue Line, all black with Blue Marzocchi bomber forks). I am not a very big guy (5,6 about 125lbs) and run much better than I fight, so I went to the running store and got a bigger buddy to come with me. We ran up to where the dudes were sitting, ironically enough on some church steps and despite having my heart racing I politely told the guy that he had my bike and would he please give it back. He began to tell me how he had already bought it twice this year and how he just bought it for $40 bucks. I told him, that I had owned it for about 4 years and that if he wanted, I could come back with the shoes that match the pedals (nothing special, just shimano spds, but I took a gamble). At this time one of his buddies coughs that sucks, you re busted and I just thanked him, grabbed the bike and walked away.
I ll admit that I was scared shitless as there 3 of them and they had a lot more to lose than me in this situation, but damn does it feel empowering.
I friggin hate people who steal bikes.

I’m glad you got your bike back.

How big is that wheelbarrow? The one that you carry your nuts around in? Sheesh!

Ballsy move. I’d have been much more inclined to show up with the cops, though. You want to steal my shit, you’re going to jail.

Adam, I can just see you running to get your ‘bigger buddy’ Rumon (or someone else, just as ‘huge’ )…and these two runner dudes facing down a pack of 3 street thugs  That would have been awesome !!

I’m glad you got your bike back. I had my Cannondale stolen from Crystal Pool ( from a locked car and it was locked in it) a few years ago and I still fume about it.

My big buddy was Brad Cunningham (who is hairier than he is big), Trevor sat cowering at Frontrunners pretending to help a customer!

Hey, thank Brad and Trevor for the awesome cheering at IMC…that was great, it sure makes a difference… I really appreciated it.

Hows the Hawaii prep coming
Im sure that you are ready to rock
.

It’s coming OK, I hit a big dip a couple days ago but I am climbing back out of it.

I think I’ll do a lightish week next week, then 3 weeks of short intense stuff before hitting it !!

I’ll race as hard as I can, but I heard (here and everywhere) how Hawaii is a different story to other IMs, so I have no goals… just to hit it as hard as I can, and learn as much as I can !

Trev

awesome story

I would have brought the Mossberg however
