Hey all
Ok we have worked the wheel question to death but I have one more for you.
With the advent of Hed’s new Stinger 9 that looks faster then a disk on their aero chart until you get past 15 degrees of yaw, and if we take in to account Rolf’s data stating that most riders will not see more then 15 degrees of yaw then are we better to go with a set of Stinger 9 over a disk in the rear and what ever front wheels you like and save the weight? we have for so long gone with the knowledge that a disk is the best wheel for the rear, but with the new breed of wheels coming out from Hed with the wider rim C2 and the wider aero cross section I’m starting doubt the old “disk is fastest” info?
What say you?
Dan…
I think that a disc still has a tendency to be faster with a rider on the bike(something about the way it smoothes air coming from the legs back). Hed’s data shows that a 1080 beats the Sub9; but if you look at Zipp’s “rider-on” data, the sub 9 is still better than a 1080 in the rear.
