Still with this damn hip

I’ve posted over the last year or so about what was first diagnosed as nagging ITBS turned out to be some more involved hip issues. Othro #1 (NYU) diagnosed labral tear and ischiofemoral impingement. After conservative management, I was about to take the plunge and get surgical repair. I went for a 2nd opinion that ended up leading to 3rd & 4th opinions. Ultimately, I’ve been told that I have pretty marked hip dysplasia that my body has been compensating for for the last 45 years. Opinions #2-4 are all at HSS and discussed my case and agree that my options are to live with it (which is currently chronic pain/discomfort and no triathlon) or have an osteotomy to shift my pelvis and deepen the hip socket. On the one hand, I trust the physicians. On the other, I have this nagging feeling (in addition to nagging pain!) that while we’ve identified these anatomic/structural deformities, and fully admit that at 45 years old my body could be starting to break down if it’s been overcompensating for so long, this just isn’t the right approach. Anyone with any experience, perspective, advice?

Good luck. No ideas. But 45 is an old body? Just you wait. It does not get any better. :frowning:
