Steelman Sunbury Pa

Anybody here going? Is the course easy? The web page says challenging, but suitable for newbies. I can’t get those two facts together very well.

My father lives in Sunbury (I live an hour south, in Camp Hill). I’m signed up for the race, but will probably skip it because of a nagging running injury.

The swim is in the river, which might involve some current… but nothing too worry about. The run course has to be flat if it is on Shikellamy State Park island. I’ve been on that island many times, and I don’t recall any hills.

I’ve ridden all of the roads in Sunbury, but not in the exact order of the bike course. My memory (which I just confirmed with my father) is that Mile Post road is a climb (going away from the river) of 5% grade, give or take. It strikes me as the kind of course where newbies could blow up early on the bike. Then again, it’s a sprint, so pacing generally consists of “go fast”.

Enjoy the race. I’m bummed I won’t be there!

I do all races with a bum knee. It’s on the island and flat, so at least it’s doable. That 5% seems to be for 5 miles! This is going to be very pokey! If you’ve already paid the entry, come get your shirt at least. Maybe you walk really fast? I read about a couple Italian women who walked 6 minute + miles. But I don’t know the distance.

I don’t know anything about the race other than the RD of the OTHER Steelman Tri in the area wasn’t very happy when this one started. Last year this race apparently even used the logo of the first race.
