As a kid we drove through it multiple times a year on the way to and from Michigan on the Turnpikes. Now I pass through with my family couple times a year on the way to Canada to visit my in-laws. My wife can’t wrap her head around why an intersection can mean so much, but yes pure americana. It was the last stop before the turnpike but also just about when my father would get into the trip and start singing along to the driving music like:
I have done the NA Championship almost every year the past 4, but only because it was St. George and I can drive there. The fact that it was the NA Champs was irrelevant. Does anyone actually care about the “Champs” part?
Aren’t you one of the more competitive AGers around here? If you don’t care I can’t imagine many others do. Or maybe people less competitive like a NA champs because there are more slots available than usual?
That said, I wouldn’t expect many west coast people to come east for this. But I would say that if it were anywhere on the east coast. NA champs is still going to attract to those closer in the region.
Being a NA Championship just doesn’t have a lot of meaning to me personally. I don’t find qualifying for Worlds 70.3 particularly difficult so the extra slots isn’t a motivation.
Championship, nationals, state Championship, race the best, etc, all just marketing bs. Just like in sale, early bird pricing. Etc.
Anyone who thinks all the best go to the marketing bs races has no idea who most of the best are. In 20 years racing I went to very few. The money to spend was better spent with my family going to Disneyland
30,000 pounds. Love that song. Saw it performed live as a kid. Chapin’s ‘Greatest Stories Live’ is still one of my favorite albums. No one could tell a better story through song. And he was as much a humanitarian as he was a songwriter. RIP, Harry.
