I have this idea for a new race format in which age-groupers would represent their respective states that they live in at a national championships. So if your reading this and from the USAT…pay attention.
Each state has three qualifying races to see who will represent them from each age group. the races could be somehting different too, like a 1 mile swim, 30 mile bike and a 9 mile run…enough that you have to train, but not give up your life. these races have points awarded to them and you get points based on you standings in your age group. The three top people with the most points at the end of the state series gets to go to the national chmpionships to represent their state. And each state can get their own jerseys made up and have team colors…ect, you get the idea…make it so representing your state is a cool thing.
After that is settled you have a national championships somewhere, and it could be a different place every year…one year flat, hilly the next, ocean swim then a lake swim, whatever. You have the national championships and tally up all the points that each person from each state has accumulated and a state with the most points is declared the winner, we can call it like the US Cup of Triathlon or something, then that state holds the cup and major bragging rights to the other states until the next year. Can you imagine the messages on this post and trash talking that would be going on?
What does everyone think? It could give people something else to train for and each state can get a team coach to help them…like in NJ, Don Fink can train them, in Maryland…coach Troy J can train them…how great would this be??? Or did I just have too much time to think during my 2 mile swim this morning???
And if anyone from the USAT wants me to work there and pay me a substantial salary to organize all this, I’ll be happy to do it.
