First, I want to say that this post is not to invite debate about whether or not strength training is beneficial to triathlon - that’s already been done on many other threads.
My question is: has anybody here incorporated one of the Starting Strength plans (by Mark Rippetoe) into your triathlon training routine (or a similar program)? I’ve been doing one of the 5X5 routines three days per week since the New Year, mainly because I am much thinner than the average triathlete (I’m male, late 30’s) and I am trying to add some muscle mass and general strength, especially in my lower body. I’m experiencing good gains so far (especially in squats), but this program doesn’t allow me much recovery for S/B/R (or vice versa), so I’m wondering if anyone else on the forum has had some success with this program while still doing S/B/R and how you did it. Thanks.
