So, IMLP was to be my 7th IM in five years. I was going to take time off, and not race IM for a while, catch up with the fam, etc. But I crashed out on the bike, and DNF’d. So, I signed up for next year.
Usually, after an IM, i gain some wieght, take time off, and start over from the beginning a couple of months later. But I want to try something different. I’m in shape, not beat up, snd mtivated for next year. My main goal is to take off more weight, as it is likely my biggest limiter. I currently weigh 210, (my “IM Weight”) and was 185 as a nationally ranked swimmer in high school and college. How do i get back to that? (6’1")
I also need ot work on my run…My marathons in my IMs have averaged 5:20. My average finish time is 12 hours and change…
So, slowtwitchers…what would you do wth the next 12 months?
I also DNF’d at LP. I ran into back problems (again) and also some emotional/mental hurdles that I just couldn’t overcome.
I left the race bracelet on my wrist as a reminder that I didn’t finish, and also as a motivator to get back to the line (it was to be my 3rd Ironman).
I would say focus on your weakness, and do some longer, easier runs. If you want to lose weight, stop drinking alcohol, that’s what worked for me. The weight came right off. Good luck, and i’ll see you next year.
Have you thought about using your current fitness to do another IM this year? Maybe the Grand Columbian in my old stopmin’ grounds of eastern WA, or the silverman tri in Vegas?
If it’s a no to that, I say run run run run. Running is my weak link as well. But training for a marathon last fall/winter has really improved things for me this season.
well I would suggest to get some goals. short term, long term and aim for them. if you don’t have a coach, that sure will do it. It is very motivating to be accounted for. i know when I got one, I dropped 1:45 off my IM time. Think about it…
