anyone know what the standard rise is for road stems? 6-7 degrees?, haven`t measured mine but if you dont reverse the post its parallel to the ground bunt once reversed, it makes an angle already. thanks!
I don’t think there is a standard. You can anything from 3 degrees (+ or -) to 15 degrees (+ or -) and and anything in between. Probably even more range with adjustable stems, etc.
There are a variety of different stem rise options available. At one time the -17 quill stem seemed to be the standard, but nowadays it seems the -6/+6 reversible stem is the most common spec.
i see. so the standard +/- 6-7 degrees will get you parallel to the ground. just wanted to check first before i buy
The -6 won’t get you parallel to the ground. It will still have a bit of a rise. I had a Ritchey WSC -17 that was actually a negative rise. Not sure off hand what the parallel stem is?
currently on a ritchey stem but not sure what model and rise but if i flip it, gives me a bit of a rise. it does look parallel now when i had myself fitted but need to get a -17 and 120 stem…
a -17 stem is usually parallel to the ground, or close enough, depending on the geometry of the bike. 73 degree head angle + 17 degrees = 90 degrees (from vertical).
i see. not sure what the head angle is of my 99 blade…but i need to go lower some more but will see first if a -17 is the way to go
