On the Galibier. Pereiro just cracked and was dropped by the breakaway. Vino and Botero are on their own, over 3 min up on the pack. So is DISCO going to throw down again today?
OK, so now Vino is on his own and he’s looking pretty good. Man, I love this guy!
I think they will let Botero and Vino keep their 3 min lead. Lance has enough of a cushion on these dudes. Still two hard days left to go in the Pyranees and a long TT (although both these guys are TT studs and if Lance does bonk in the Pyranees…then we might have a race), but overall, I think Disco will limit their output today and save some for the rest of the TdF.
Hey, if anyone is watching this live on OLN, keep posting here. The text updates on the various sources are a bit lame.

I like Vino as well. really wish he could improve his TT form, and go to Disco next year.
Come on Vino…give us a tour!!!
if you’re Rasmussen – wait for another DSC guy to drop (Beltran just did), then attack if you have the legs. Steep climb, DH to the finish - tailor made for a former mtb’er! Go chicken!
On second thought, if Lance is within 2 min of Vino with 5-7K to go on the steepest part of Galibier (10% and up between 7500-8600 ft), then I bet he can single handedly close. Vino is just carrying way more weight up and it will hurt at that steepness at that altitude. It will be interesting to see. Vino has been killing himself up front all day. Lance has been sitting in caboose mode on the Disco train…
I don’t think they’ll make so much of today. With the long descent at the end of the stage, everyone will be able to catch up just as they did on the first long descent. I think today is a day to finish on the wheel of Rasmussen or in the peleton.
Vino drops botero and kicks it up a notch. The disco boys are leading the train behind with lance’s new buddy rasmussen firmly on his wheel.
I don’t think they’ll make so much of today.
Agree.
I agree. The mountain finishes are really the best opportuinity for Lance to put time into people. Vino looks damn good and Disco is keeping a good pace, but definitely nothing compared to yesterday.
Vino couldn’t hang with Lance yesterday on a less difficult climb, and Vino has been muscling out front all day today and only has a 3min lead on the peloton. When Vino gets to within 10km of the top, what’s to stop Lance and his fresher legs from riding him down and further demoralizing the field?
Another possible day of great “strategeration” by DSC.
…I do agree…I’d like to see Vino give us a tour. If he reaches the summit first, he will go nuts attacking on the downhill…kinda like in 2003 when Beloki crashed trying to close on him !
Hey…where is the expert Slowtwitch commentary from Sue Marston and Cathy Morgan anyway. You ladies are slacking off on the job. Get to work. Sue, you are not going to get that OLN gig with Frankie Andreau with this type of work ethic…
Man Vino is flying - faster and faster… He is looking strong today.
Rubiera is done, off the back now
.
I think Il Falco will guide LA down to the finish.
…ok this is better, I got the live Eurosport audio up. All the dudes in the office (at least within earshot) are now listening in…
I have to agree with some of the comments from yesterday. I think Levi is looking really good. He’s at the front of the bunch with Disco, Ullrich, Landis, etc. but he looks really good and comfortable. I’m impressed.
Looks like Vino could hold onto it. He’s putting time into the group.
5km to the top and Vino is still up 3:10 on the field…dropped Botero and is still looking strong.
how many still in the LA group, and who?
