They already got more than 2,850 participants and they have been open for only one hour… This is going to see a new record…
Fantastic, in 10 min they got 200 more people… By noon EST should be closed…
Which is one of the reasons I’ve sent off my entry for Gulf Coast. St A’s is just too damn crowded now to be enjoyable.
Cheers
Barry
I just for registered St. Ants…although I was hoping to go head-to-head with BGlading at St. Ants for a rematch from the July 4th Duathlon…now I may have to follow him up to Panama Sh!tty for GCT…
Anyone that does not get it, you can enter Florida Great Escape Triathlon - Sunday, March 5th, 2006 - go to www.usantc.com for race information and to sign up for the event. Z
Even if they strung out the bike start, each cyclist would be separated by only 23 feet over the 24.8 miles. With the way it is…the bike course will be jam packed full of people. With the 45 + number of turns on the course it’ll be an accident waiting to happen. Way too many people!!!
Hey, KJ, I need a large time advantage - none of this ‘head to head’ stuff! Think of my age, man, fer gawd’s sake!!!
Cheers
Barry
So with this many people…calculated by the amount of space on the St. Pete bike course…does everyone just start with a drafting penalty?
They had problems, atleast my friends and I had, with the credit card payment the first hour. The 125 wouldnt auto load so you couldnt process a CC. I finally got in after 10:00. I am going to wear a full set of football pads on the ride and maybe the run.
there is a ton of double entries I am in 4 times…
I agree - did it 2 years ago. Did NOT enjoy myself at all. VERY well organized though, as good as an M-dot event, but WAY overbooked. Limited to 1,000 or so, this would be a premier event for sure.
I’ve done it 3 times many moons ago. The 3rd time the course was crowded and I never went back. It was about 1,200 back then. I can’t even imagine over 3,000. What a mess!!! It is a great race though. but they’ve let the numbers of entrants get way out of hand. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

As you said, is very well organized… It’s the premier triathlon event in Florida… Is the best race and the best organization by far…
anybody know what coupon entry means? Registration has closed despite many people being entered multiple times - is this going to be fixed?

I don’t think so, but probably you can buy a Charity Spot for $250 tomorrow… Man, this race is incredible… I took only 5 1/2 hours to fill up…
But I agree that is way to many people anyway…
Gee, none of us were even close in Tom’s contest! I guess SRQ_3sport wins?
The bike course wasn’t that bad for me last year because I went out in like the second or third wave after the pros. But, I did see some intentional drafting taking place. I was passed by three groups of riders, one even had a pretty good organized paceline going. I felt like I was in an ITU event. One of the groups overtook me at the same time as an official and I got flagged for drafting!! I saw him take a long look at my number and tried to tell him I wasn’t part of the group, that the group was just passing me. He wouldn’t buy it and penalized me. I even slowed down a bit so they could all get right by me, but to no avail.
From someone who has no idea here…what’s the big draw of that race that makes it sell out in one day?

It’s the best in Florida… Nice course, great venue, perfectly organized… If you have been racing in Florida you should know that there is nothing comparable…
You need to work for the organizers! I’ve done that race 3 times. Its a great race, but not all that much better then some of the Clermont races. The main reason lots of people go is because of the ITU race before hand. Its been around for a long time. The name recognition is high. Lots of people have heard about it, so lots of people race it.
I don’t go to races for the expo. I like racing for the fun of it in a well organized race. The best sprints I’ve ever done were the early Clermont race series when they had about 600 people in them. Now those races are also too crowded, so i’ve not gone back after racing them for 3-4 years. Now the best sprints are the Fine Arts Sprint Series in Jacksonville, FL. They only allow like 3-400 people. VERY well run, excellent course and the best post race food I’ve ever had in 15 years of racing. Sticky Fingers BBQ is an all-you-can eat feast!!
St Anthony’s is a good race…but I’d not recommend it for a first timer due to the crowds of racers and spectators. Not to mention the size of the transition area…its bigger then a darn football field…try finding your bike!! : ) My “support crew” (wife) has seen more accidents at the start of T2 at St A’s then any other race we’ve been to. There’s just too darn many racers piling into T2 all at once. Lots of bike crashes there.
