SS on group rides?

Hi Folks,

I ride mostly singlespeeds these days but haven’t used my road ss on group rides yet. Now that the rides are slowing down a bit I figure it might be a good time try it. I run a fairly large gear 52x18 which I figure I might have to change to something more accomodating to hillier rides. The rides are well attended with usually at least 30 riders and duration is usually 30-60 rolling miles with 1 or 2 decent climbs. Does anyone have any experience riding a ss on a ride with mostly geared bikes?

Thanks for any comments and suggestions-

Craig

Single speed or fixie? Single speed should be no problem, but when the hammer drops (as it almost always will) you might be left in the dust. If it’s a fixie, there’s a whole host of things to consider. I’ve found it best to do fixie rides when it’s agreed by the whole group to either ride fixed or single speed (and if it’s a road bike, to just pick one gear for the ride and stay there).

Thanks for the input. I’m riding singlespeeds specifically. Not fixed.
