SRM problem

Im not sure exactly whats going on but it is taking my srm a couple seconds to pick up data once i start pedaling.

once i get going the numbers look normal but starting out and coming out of turns the numbers are looking wierd.

Any suggestions?

troll… i never heard of any problem with SRM… they are the best!

Watts take a few seconds to register once you start pedaling. Everything else (speed, cadence, etc) should be up right away. Watts like 5 seconds later. If thats the case then your all set, nothing to worry about…

And Jonnyo is right, they are the best!

cadence seems to be the same thing… maybe i have just never noticed because i don’t pay attention to it while i am biking.

not sure but you might want to check your sampling rate assuming that it’s user settable on the SRM. I’ve only used an Ergomo and Polar but if you’re sampling rate is set at 5sec then watts only update every 5 sec. Besides that most of the units I’ve used do take a second to get going from a stop.

My fav part is how often I look down and go “crap the power’s not working! how can I be at zero when I’m going so fast???” then I remember I’m coasting… seriously i do this all the time:P

Thats the thing its registering fine while im going it just seems to take a few seconds to pick up the cadence and watts… but like i said it could be that i never noticed before.

The SRM just can’t believe you’re so weak, so it waits a little while to confirm.

Hey Tai!

You said you’ve used ergomo and polar. Was that polar power system you were talking about? How is it? Or do anyone else have any (good) feedback of it (the new wireless polar power)? I’m dying to buy me a power meter but because ergomo doesn’t fit to my bike my two only options are likely to be SRM (can’t afford) and polar.

Thanks,

Save your pennies and scour the classifieds for a used SRM.

Anyone else from the certified smartass crew want to chime in

.

Hey Jaako, yup it was the older power system. It seemed to work pretty well but honestly back when I had it, in the days of the S710 and I really didn’t know what to look for in a power meter.

Things I do remember were that the power jumped around LOT and it seemed a bit hard to get a good feel for your output although dropping the sampling to a longer interval did help with that. Also the screen was pretty tiny (using the 710 watch) and the setup was a pain although once it’s on, it’s on.

The new unit looks a lot cleaner though, smaller, lighter (I think) and a better user interface. You can find old units super cheap sometimes though. I sold mine on ST for like $50 although when I sold it it had been sitting in a box for a year or so and I wasn’t even sure if it still worked so I marked it down quite a bit.

An older power tap might be a nice idea as well.

I have never seen this problem on my SRM - oh wait, it is because I never coast…
