SRM, Parallels 3.0, and OS X 10.4.10

Has anyone gotten their SRM to connect after the update?

Ben

i’m still no parallels 2.x but i don’t know if it was the parallels or 10.4.10 update but my powertap stopped sycning normally. usb errors, timeouts. what a pain…

john

when using the PT download was it with the USB downloader or did you use the serial with a USB-Serial converter?

and for that matter… Powertap too?

I am done with PC’s going for an Apple very soon. Problem is I cant afford the 1999+ “mac book PRO” that run windows natively and will be opting for the smaller mac book. Does USB PT download cradle synch in parallels with the data and CPS???

Um… I guess I could just go reference the wattage list???

i’m using the usb downloader that came with the powertap.

all was working fine before — plug it in, pops up under the menu (select “com 3 - ubs serial”) and click download.

now after the “updates” i can get it to recognize it, but when i click download it just times out. i know the adapter works because i can download workouts using poweragent.

but i bought cyclingpeaks and parallels especially for the extra graphs/norm power, etc.

any ideas?
john

Mark,
Give parallels a try on your macbook, actually the secret to buying a mac is, when you go to the store, ask what open boxes they have available. You can get what they have available for 2-400 less than whats on the floor. You get 2 weeks to try it out and make sure it functions ok, and if you decide that you don’t like it for whatever reason you can return it with out a restock fee. It will still be under the 90 day / 1 year warrenty unless you get the apple care for it.

I was using the cycleops power whatever software to download from my PT. At that point i had not moved CPS over from my pc yet, but i have CPS on my macbook pro now, but just got an SRM and having the issue of it not wanting to sync up. I had it working before the 10.4.10 update then all hell broke loose. The PT USB cradle works fine. although there was a bit of a secquence that i had to go through to get it to recognize it. i think it was open the software with out the usb cradle being plugged in, after the software was open, plug it in, and then afterwards put the PT computer on it. and it would recognize it no problem.

good luck. message me if you need anything.

Ben

search the wattage list.

you can usually find answers to alllllll your power questions there.

good luck!

RE: Macs…

Got a hook up from a friend who works at Apple in Austin. Just need to call him. My Dell (where he used to work) only boots up properly in 1 out of 10 chances. That and I have about 128 memory on it. S-l-o-wwwww. 7yrs old.

RE: your usb cradle protocol……a bit of a secquence that i had to go through to get it to recognize it. i think it was open the software with out the usb cradle being plugged in, after the software was open, plug it in, and then afterwards put the PT computer on it

that’s what I do anyway with my current situation… I actually think that’s what we’re supposed to do.

Congrats on the SRM! Good luck this year!!!

i am on a macbook pro with 3 gigs of ram 2.33 ghz whatever… really nice laptop, my wife has one and my server is a mac pro. my workstation at work is a mac pro too. in the last 8 months i am like 12k into mac stuff but i have no regrets. other than my SRM currently not syncing but it will be worked out.

how are things going for you? you seem to be kinda quiet on the forum lately. How is your back, I think you were having problems right before kona last year.

Ben

“Problem is I cant afford the 1999+ “mac book PRO” that run windows natively and will be opting for the smaller mac book”

Not sure if a refurbished Macbook Pro appeals to you, but they can be had for $1300 (and up) direct from the Apple Store. Comes with the same 1-yr warranty as a new 'book, and can be extended with AppleCare – only difference is that for whatever reason it’s been “used.” Sure, it might have a cosmetic blem or two also, but for the savings it offers, IMO, it’s well worth it. Unless of course you only prefer things NEW  7 years and counting on my current G4 TiBook (refurb), and I’m just about ready to pull the trigger again.

To give an example of my “need” for “new”.

Till I moved to Colorado and required a car that could handle winter I was driving a repair nightmare with 12 yrs and 150k+ on it. My current computer is 7 yrs old and can’t boot up. I watch movies on rental dvd for a $1 and my goal every week is to see how little i can spend on food.

So I’m both cheap and don’t need anything new… oops… dont talk to me about bike stuff.

Hahah, right on. Then you should definitely look at a refurb, if that’s in your $ range. Apple Store → Special Deals → Refurbished Mac. They typically replenish “on-line stock” every Tues. AM. Looks like they’re already out of the $1249 model that was there this morning though. Good luck!
