SRM + Garmin 705 - Works OK?

I’ve decided and I am going with the PCVI. I came to the conclusion that if i want to map my rides, i can just put my 305 in my jersey pocket, but the real deal breaker for the 705 was the fact it doesn’t do pedal time it only does total time. The PCVI only does pedal time, meaning stop lights don’t count, etc. If you come to a stop light with the 705 the keeps the clock going and is throwing your average wattage for the ride off.

nebmot,

I have an EDGE 305 and from the Main Menu>Training>AutoPause/Lap you can turn the autopause on/off.

I assume the Edge 705 has a similar function…maybe worth a try…

Thanks for the info/update on the SRM/705/Power Control VI.

Your right!

I will give that a try now and see how close the power is to the PCVI.

I have my autopause set for 5mph on my 305…works pretty well. If you have it set to “stopped” or the default 2mph then the unit still records for several seconds when you come to a stop, which will (very slightly) throw things off a bit. This is especially an issue with the 305 if you stop under tree cover, because the GPS accuracy is lower and the unit thinks you are still moving slightly. The 705 I believe uses the speed/cadence sensor first and GPS secondary for speed so it’s probably not as big of a deal.

Ben,

After a few more weeks of use of the SRM with the PowerControl VI and the Garmin 705 what is your preferred device?

Mark,
I actually ripped the RD out of my 2008 transition and haven’t been riding really. Although, when I do build another tri bike, i am going to use the PCVI. I can pair the HR strap from my garmin to it and just use 1 strap for a race. I have come to the realization that i don’t really care about the mapping features of the 705, i care more about accurate data, with that being said i have made my transition into a fixie and going to use the 705 on that for speed, distance, HR and cadence. =]

hope that helps.
