Is anyone out there using SRM Pro + Garmin 705?
Is it working OK?

I cannot speak for the SRM but the 705 and PT marry perfectly. I would even say that the power readings have less variance then the PT with the stock computer head. I could never get that one to smooth out. It did take an update of the 705 to get it working properly though.
I want to know the same thing. Tim
Yes im using it. you ABSOLUTELY have to get the latest firmware from garmin, as the earlier version didnt work. Works fine now. There are some well documented bugs if you import into WKO, but if this isnt a big deal for you go for it.
Also- this is not garmin specific, but getting the magnet for the srm to work is a bit fiddly on the bottom bracket.
I will let you know in a few days, my SRM is supposed to ship today or tomorrow. I got the PCVI as well incase there were issues.
Hi What sort of power figures can the garmin display?
off the top of my head
real time
ave
zone
lap ave
1-2 more
you can have 8 things being displayed at the same time.
My SRM works fine with the Garmin 705. As one person responded, the earlier firmware was trash, the update fixed all of the calibration issues. I have been uploading to Training Peaks and have had almost no glitches with the new firmware.
Unlike my Powertap which was prone to very frequent drops, the wireless SRM has been perfect.

If I had that much data my brain would melt.
Oh wait, it already did… ![]()
I would be interested in a comparison from you (when you get it all set up) re the POWERCONTROL VI vs the GARMIN 705 with the the SRM.
Seems you save $950 by purchasing a SRM withOUT the POWERCONTROL VI, and given a GARMIN 705 is around $400 to $500 maybe the 705 is the way to go…saves some $ and get GPS tracking too…assuming that the 705 gives reliable power data.
Previous threads on this subject detailed several seconds delays on receiving real-time power on the 705…I guess the updated firmware solved this issue. Any one care to comment?
Keep us informed on your comparison of the PC vi and the 705.
Has anyone got a DURA-ACE SRM that they swap between 2 bikes on a regular basis? Is it indeed as simple as removing/installing regular DURA-ACe crank sets? I am thinking of getting a DURA-ACE SRM - and train on the tri-training bike , and swap it to my tri-racing bike (same geometry as training bike) for the 5 or 6 races I do each year. Too late for me to “invest” in a PT given I have multiple carbon race wheels, discs etc.
MarkyV says that it takes him about 5 mins to swap the crank over.
PM trukweaz for pricing on SRM’s. No one will beat his price.
I will keep you posted.
Thank you and thank you on both counts.
Today was the first ride with the SRM, 705 and the PCVI.
Settings PCVI set to automatic for slope and zero offset
The 705 picked up the correct slope from the srm and i set the zero offset at the beginning of the ride.
The 705 is mounted to my stem, the PCVI is mounted to my right bullhorn.
I did not have the speed pod skewer installed, and i was using the garmin HR strap, but changed the SRM to listen for ANT+ for HR.
The interface on both is nice, the 705 has up to 8 fields that you can have displaying at one time.
The PCVI has 8 as well.
The 705 was consistently lower in power than the PCVI. I saw ranges of being from 20-30 watts lower to the higher the wattage went up, the greater the range was, up to 50 watts, this is all based on looking down at both.)
From stop lights both took a second to pick the signal back up.
At the beginning of the ride even the HR was not agreeing on both, but after about 30 mins they were within 1-2 beats of each other.
The garmin reported an ave wattage of 49 watts lower for the entire ride, but that could be related to it seemed to be recording of total time and not pedal time I will see if I can change that setting to its more reflective of the SRM.
Right now I am leaning towards using the PCVI. For mapping if you have a iPhone, Blackberry, or andriod phone, www.instamapper.com will give you a map of your ride, if thats something that you care about.
one thing that i did like about the PCVI is that it showed what power zone i was in on the main screen. I am sure that i can set one of the garmin fields to do that as well though.
I just saw on that garmin that i was using smart recording that has been changed to 1 second to match the PCVI.
awesome… whoever gave you that advice must be smart. ![]()
=] I heard it from a bunch of people but i had to see for myself.
The 705 doesn’t do pedal time, so I think the average wattage is never going to match up.
I am going to continue to ride with both for another 5 or so rides and then figure out if the 705 is going on the classifieds or if the PCVI is going back in the box.
I really really really like the PCVI
1054 hours of 1 sec recording time.
i can get lazy and forget to DL… so what! ![]()
I almost lost my mind last year when i was using the PCV and forgot to download before riding, after 25 laps around fiesta island, i had nothing!
thats a non issue now. =]

** D/A 7800 SRM here. I switch between bikes VERY frequently. It’s very simple and fast to do. **
nebmot,
Please let us know which one you decide. I am looking at SRM and trying to decide between PCVI and 705
THanks!
I’m going to keep updating this thread I was looking for something like this a couple weeks ago when I bought mine, I couldn’t decide so I got both to see for myself.
