SRAM TT Levers -- is there a trick?

I installed and wired up my brakes this weekend using the SRAM TT levers.

I couldn’t get the allen wrench in to the hole because the lever wouldn’t move out of the way enough. I could fit it in, barely, when the lever wasn’t inside the handlebar but not when it was.
I ended up tightening it down, somewhat, using a size smaller allen wrench but could only get it snug not completely tight.

So what’s the trick?

htfu and pull the lever harder and squeeze the allen wrench in there
.

When I put mine on, i pulled the lever itself off, tightened up the mounting ‘base’ then put the lever back on. Just make sure you don’t lose the spring.

Thanks. I remember wondering if the lever could be removed and a (too) cursory examination said no.

Did that approach work for you?

I think I just used a longer than normal allen wrench and it worked just fine. It’s a definitely a tight fit to get at the bolt though.

You need to use a longish ball-end allen wrench as I recall; then you can tighten with the wrench at an angle. Doing all this with no bar tape on will help.

You didn’t have the cable connected to the brake did you?

Dooh!!! Nope, but it was worth asking.

That ball-ended wrench idea sounds good. I do have a set of those somewhere. Thanks.
