Here’s what Red will cost you when it becomes available this fall: The whole group price, paired with SRAM’s PC-1090R 10-speed chain, which Red shares with Force, will cost $2142. Here’s the breakdown. Shifters: $555 280-grams Front Derailleur $108 58-grams (braze on only) Rear Derailleur$311 153-grams Brake Set$297 265-grams Crankset $370 750-grams (with bottom bracket) Bottom Bracket $195 Cassette$230 155-grams (11-23) Chain $76 255-grams
I was about to post the same Velones article…Seems to be a bit pricey, but the technology is there…I am very intersted in the casette and hope it’ll work with S10.

You sure that crankset price/weight is right? That’s a heavier-than-Force crankset, at a price not much above Rival??? For unidirectional carbon with heavily CNC’d chainrings and ceramic BB bearings???
Edit:
My bad, I see now that you listed BB separate from the crankset.
The price of the cassette surprises me. Some friends and I were expecting it to come in at something like $165 wholesale, given the extensive and expensive machining. If it debuts at that list price, I’m gonna have to order a few different ones. Screw DA and its terrible durability.
Overall, though, I don’t know if the whole group is really THAT impressive when compared to even Rival. It’s 300g lighter, yeah, but at a cost increase of over $1000. You’ll find me on the crankset, cassette, and MAYBE shifters (ZeroLoss would be nice combined with the sprint shift in those hairy field sprints), but the rest is a waste. Hell, I’m riding on 15.8 pounds with Rival…no need to go balls out for Red.
More than the weight you can trim the front and the brakes are finally up to speed. Besides, “ceramic” is the buzz word of the year and folks are going to be creaming themselves to get on ceramic balls…and will swear they can tell the and feel the change…
It’ll be interesting to see what the real world price is. I didn’t even come close to paying the MSRP on my Force stuff. The shifters actually seem like a good deal when compared to Force. $60 more and you get the extra adjustment, shorter through, trim and 23 grams less weight. The Cass is also going to be intersting. The RD is the one that makes you go hmmmm. Be interesting to see if it works funcationally an better than Force, though it does have a rather cool look to it. That being said i’ll probably suck it up and get one.
Hard to believe you could tell the difference between steel and ceramic bearings by riding. Of course everyone knows you can tell the difference between brakesets by looking at pictures on a website.
I have them and like them. The brakes were recalled because a bolt used was not up to snuff and there was a failure where, from what I heard, caused no injury. My brakes were part of the recall and quickly replaced.

Correct. It was the Ti mounting bolt on a lot of brakes. The company that supplied the bolts messed up and sent the wrong grade of Ti. Needless to say SRAM no longer deals with that vendor from what I’ve been told. In my experience so far, Force and Rival brakes work as well as any of of the Shimano offerings.
The only thing Red has over them is less weight, and in reality the Force brakes are barely lighter than the Rival ones.
Thanks, i knew about the recall, but they solved those issues on Force… not by coming out with Red. It sounded like someone had issues with the way Force brakes work, and I for one think they are better than Dura Ace.
With the brakes it is the spring tension adjuster and some of the other fine tuning improvements that were mentioned on Velonews. Spring rate has been on Record / DA for a number of years. I have installed Force and it did not bother me that there were not the spring rate and off set adjustment screws - but I did notice that they were not there…and SRAM has them there now.
