Looking to put a new crank on my Cervelo, and I have heard good things about both the Ultegra crank, and the SRAM force crank. Wondering if you can run the Force crank on this without changing anything else, anyone out there know?
Just need to change the bottom bracket. Will work just fine otherwise. Why do you need a new crank?
the guys at your LBS will make fun of you, but if that dosent matter to you then do it, you wont have any problems.
The year and model of the crank will make a difference. The older Shimano Ultegra cranks (6500, 9-speed) use internal Octalink bottom brackets. The newer Ultegra (6600, 6700, 10-speed) usse external bottom bracket cups. SRAM Force cranks also use external bottom bracket cups, but they are not compatible with Shimano’s.
If carbon doesn’t matter, I’d lean towards an Ultegra SL crank vs the older SRAM Force cranks. However, I’d go with the newer 2010 SRAM Force cranks if they are within your budget. Very similar to Red and nice chainrings.
If you’re moving from an older FSA crank on your Cervelo, either the Ultegra or Force will be a nice upgrade.
Look at the new 6700/6750 ultregra crank, basically the same as the new dura ace but a few grams heavier.
Rather than question your choice I will simply answer your question too. BB will need to be swapped but everything else will work. I have a compact Force crank on my Dura-ace equpped P2C and it works just fine. I did however swap the front dr. for a Force because my P2C is from 2006, before they dropped the dr hanger 5mm to allow for compact rings. The Dura-ace dr wouldn’t go low enough but the Force has two mounting positions that make it a non-issue. If you have a newer P2C (not the blue/black paint scheme), the shimano front dr will be just fine.

I want to change cause I have a crappy fsa crank on my dual. I was told that the best two things to do would be replace my cervelo brakes and my crank. Was told that the new ultergra crank is nice and so is the new force crank. Just looking towards next year.
