Sram brake Q

Is the price variation between the rival/force/red brakes only because of the 20-40g difference or is there also differences in stopping power? Does one have more stopping power over the others or is it all pretty even?

Thanks

stopping “power” is only part of the equation with brakes. Higher end brakes are generally lighter as well. The Reds have a tension adjustment (for return “spring”) and a centering screw as well over the Rival (the 2010 Force gets this as well). Modulation in braking is very important with road racing/crits (not so much for a TT/Tri bike).

So is there a difference or do you not know?

Please read again about the “differences”

If you simply want to know if there is any difference in stopping “power”, then no. Cheap Tektro brakes can lock your wheel up pretty good, but you then stop longer as the tire skids. Modulation (and knowing/feeling how use it (making the levers important as well)) is important as are the pads, rims, wet vs. dry, etc.

Locking up the brakes isn’t the best way to slow down. When I am driving my car I do not slam on the brakes to skid to a stop at every light. So you are saying that if you use the same pads/rims/conditions/etc every brake is the same in terms of stopping “power”/modulation?

if this were true then why do those featherlight brakes have so little stopping “power”?
