I am debating between the 2 cassettes for my race wheels, other than weight how is the difference shifting? This is my main concern not grams. Cost is a issue so debating if its worth throwing down some extra coin on the RED cassette. Looking at 11-26 to be specific.
I don’t think there would be any difference in shift feel as they would use the same profiles for both models unless I am mistaken. The only real difference is weight.
I have both. I can’t tell the difference in shifting. The 1090 is louder. I can’t prove it, but I suspect the reason is that it’s hollow so when shifting you get the same kind of “clunk” you do with carbon wheels. For a Tri, I don’t think the 55g or so savings is worth it. But only you know what’s right for you.
My 1090 came with the gruppo. I will probably replace it with D/A 7900 when it wears out. Weight is very similar, and the D/A can be had cheaper.
$55 on jensonusa.com for a 1070. I bought one a week ago to finish out a build.
If shifting performance is your main criteria, don’t get either one. The Shimano cassettes are better in this regard, and are fully compatible.

I exchanged my Red Cassette for a 1070 because it was so noisy.
The 1070 is a decent cassette that works well enough (and I like the 11-26 option) but I agree with Fredly that it’s still louder than and in my opinion doesn’t shift as well as when I use an ultegra one.

+1 I wore out a 12-26 1070 cassette and couldn’t wait to replace it with a shimano cassette.
I think that if you’re running SRAM parts, run their cassette, I believe it does shift better under stress that do the ShimaNO ones. If weight isn’t an issue, go with the 1070, plus you can buy 3 of them for the price of a 1090.
“I believe it does shift better under stress…”
Interesting. Do you actually own a SRAM setup, and have you tried these combinations? You are literally the first person I have heard who has claimed this, including numerous shop and race team mechanics…

I have sram cassettte one of set of wheels and am buying a new set of wheels with a shimano cassette and was wondering if the spaceing would work if i changed between the wheels with out any tuning needed
.
You may need a slight adjustment. How far towards the hub center the cassettes sit can be very slightly different, and the hub dimensions can be slightly different. With 10 speed cassettes tiny differences can effect shifting.
Styrrell.
so would you recomed that use the same on all my wheels

Doesn’t matter… it’s not the different cassettes that’s the issue, because their cog spacing is the same (as long as we’re only talking Shimano/SRAM; Campy IS different), it’s the different hubs, because the gap from the cassette body to the dropout can vary. Really, it’s not a big deal though… for mine, it’s about 3-4 clicks (3/4-to one full turn) on the RD barrel adjuster when swapping from training to race wheels. Takes all of about 30 seconds to dial it in.
The main problem is that the barrel adjustes on rear mech has seized up and i dont know how to fix it

Soak with WD40, grab with pliers, twist. If its truly locked forever you can add an inline adjuster anywhere.
