Square Drive BB - Campy & Shimano

I was told the old Shimano sqare drive cranks will fit on a Campy square bottom bracket. Can someone confirm or deny this?

I was under the impression that the JIS taper that Shimano uses (now just on their lower-end offerings) and the Campy taper were two completely different animals. I think the Campy taper is just slightly different.

In very pragmatic terms - you can git the two sets of cranks/bbs together but the result will affect the chainline, and in a worst case scenario may affect clearance of the crank from the frame.
