I know this happens to a lot of people, but I was curious why? When I finish a hard effort (ie. sprints, hill repeats, time trials, etc) I wind up wheezy and with a slight cough for the next 1/2 hour. A friend thought that it was due to an increased rate of breathing that dries the throat, but I wanted to find out for myself via ST.
I’m thinking about it now because I did some hill repeats before work the other day. When I got into the office I was coughing a bit. There’s a new guy sitting next to me and he comes over and asks if I’m alright and offers me a cough drop. I said, “yeah, sure I’m fine. I just did some riding this morning.” Then he says, “I guess you need to ride some more, huh?” I was SO insulted. I just said, “I ride enough.” and left it at that since an explanation is often not interesting to the layperson. It’s been eating me up though. I’m questioning my performance this season now. That guy really got in my head. Maybe he’s a triathlete too!

I get the same thing. The harder the effort, the more the cough and crap. It’s happened at altitude, sea level, high/low humidity, heat, cold, wind, no wind, etc.
I’ve always thought it was a bit of exercise induced asthma, but I have no basis in fact for that supposition.
Ha I get that too, but I’m only MOP. My fastest training partner also gets it, and he’s got a decent shot at qualifying for Kona this year. It’s not just you. Don’t let your coworker get into your head.

John
I suffer from the same problem. I thought it was because I’m heavy but I was told it’s exercise induced asthma and given an inhaler for use when it occurs. I lost the inhaler.
The worst is when the wheezing and coughing causes me to have hiccups.
