I have signed up for 2 Sprint Tris this summer (one was a deferral from 2020) and it looks hopeful that both will be going off. It is also amazing how much joy it brings us now - just awaiting even small events.
But bigger races are starting up too, I am racing the Zion 100k on April 10 and that (between 5 different events - 100 mile, 100k, 50 mile, 50k, and half Marathon) has over 1600 starters between all these events.
Among the precautions, drive through package pickup only and completely staggered starts. Our 100k race with 317 athletes on the start list, has from 6am until 6:30am to start the race. So we should be spread out from the start
I have my first sprint tri in 3 weeks. It is a wetsuit race. I love sprints. I have no idea what the protocols are. I know they are doing everything imaginable. I need to read the athlete guide, but I have time.
Still in limbo here as far as I can tell in Mass. Guys at the LBS were pretty optimistic but rode racing won’t open up until phase 4B and no one knows when that is. With cases on the rise here it’s getting a little frustrating. Why don’t they at least open stuff up to fully vaxed people?
I love sprints too! Nice to not have a big taper or big recovery.
Did my first of the year a couple of weeks ago. We wore masks in transition until it was ready to line up for the swim start (was a pool swim) and there we stayed 6 feet away from each other. Felt safe. And just awesome to race and have fun.
And age groupers can do the ITU draft legal style of racing in some US races at the sprint distance…
(not the no enforcement of the draft zone rules, but actual draft legal, road bike)
Other than my emo trash about race season still being in doubt where I live. I love sprints because they’re cheap and I can hammer like I’ve never hammered before. It’s kind of fun that way.
