Sprint T1 bike mounting?

I really don’t like to run in my bike shoes (have Speedplays so cleat is awkward and slippery on asphalt). Should I try the rubber band thing with my shoes already clipped in? Do you pedal with your feet on top of your shoes for a little while or slide your feet in right away?

Pedal with the feet on top for a little while. A little body glide on the heel of the shoe helps me slide in a little easier.

do the rubber band thing. it works. From personal experience, just use small elastic bands not thick ones.

I’ve quit using the rubber bands. They always seem to end up in bad places when they break (i.e., tickling my ankle every rotation or in my cogs). I use tape. I attach it firmly to the pull loop on the back of my Shimano T-1s and then very loosely to the frame, so that it always comes off stuck to the back of my shoe instead of the frame. Pedal with your feet on top until you get your speed up and get out of traffic.

I rubberband the left shoe into the back position. I run along the right side of my bike and then just leap over the seat. After my butt lands on the seat, my toes meet the right shoe which pushes it into a horizontal position where I can now press down on it. My left foot can now make contact with the left shoe.

Depending on the exit conditions, I might go up to a quarter mile before getting the feet into the shoes. I’ll never do it on an uphill, unless it’s a long one, where I need to pull on the pedals. Generally, I wait for a flat or downhill and I’m nearly up to speed before slipping the feet in.

thanks, anyone else?

I do exacly as keyster has already explained.

I tape as well, electrical tape. just make sure to tape the right shoe heel loop up hign on the chainstay so the tape doesn’t end up in teh gears. I may try rubber bands again though as it was tough taping in the rain last weekend.

Tape the left shoe foward, make sure your straps are all the way open (some straps lock open). Jump on and pedal until you’re up to speed, yup can be a good 1/4 mile or more sometimes. put one shoe on at a time pedaling in between if necessary to maintain speed.

Plus speedplays can clog in transitin if it’s muddy and you run in them.

I use dental floss. I’ve been looping it through the heel strap on my L shoe and then over the QR lever, however I kind of like my L foot to be forward when I start to ride, and I mount from the L side of the bike - so I might try something else. I wanted to avoid tying up the R shoe to the rear because I didn’t want to get dental floss in my cogs or R derailleur.

Just like desert dude mentioned. Rubber band, I cannot do it any other way. Works every time!
If you use a thin one, it will break by it self as soon as you start riding.
