Sprint 2 weeks before a half?

Whats the best way to make sure this is useful?

Go really hard?

Take it easy and go for a long ride after/day before?

Swim a bunch before?

Eat shed loads of bacon and pancakes and get over it?

Hints appreciated…

Do not think going hard at a sprint will hurt overall at half two weeks before. Your body should be recuperated by then. Go for it have fun with your buddies if they are doing it. Did NYC oly last year and was pert near heat exhaustion (for real probably was there!) then did a sprint ( NJ State ) next week and had a PR @ 1 hour 9 minutes and some seconds. Not super fast by ST standnerds but best I ever did. Not exactly the same but if your ready for a half it should not hurt.

Well, you can never go wrong with eating lots of bacon. : )

The recovery time for a sprint is, oh - about 1 night of sleep.
I’ve set L-run training PB’s the morning after a Wed nite club sprint, so <12 hrs from finish of race to start of L run).

Last year, I PB’d a club sprint on Wed nite, then PB’d a HIM on the following Saturday, <2.5 days later.

If you are racing, you are racing. Go hard, or go home.
Regardless of which day the Sprint you are doing is, I’d ride hard 2-3 hrs the other day, maybe also do a short T-run. Basically train right thru the sprint.
You don’t need to taper for them, and you don’t need to recover after them.

go really hard
.

That’s what I was hoping somebody would say.

For good measure, I’ll do the bacon thing too.

Go really hard. I had a sprint 6 days before Steelhead, and raced it hard. Had a great sprint race and placing. Steelhead, the following Sat. went perfectly, and PR’d by about 35 minutes and also placed pretty good for me.

If going hard in a sprint 2 weeks before your a half totally fries your body, then I think you have bigger problems to worry about for your half.

A sprint done at maximum effort is still less work than a hard (or long) pre-taper workout.

Useful? Go hard and have fun. Skip the pancakes and have bacon and Eggs.

exactly!

I am doing a sprint on sunday - 2 weeks before Timberman 70.3. I plan to do the sprint, then go ride another 40 or so miles and run another 5k - so that I get a full pretaper workout

how big is your base of mileage?how long doing triathlons?..im doing an olympic 9 days before ironman next month, some people think its crazy, im resting 1 week, do the oly ,rest another week and then do rionman KY…a lot of people do way too much long stuff…if your tired though, rest is better than racing.
