Sports Drinks?

Okay, looks like this forum likes e-gels hands down…so I just ordered some to try. Now on to Sports Drinks: I’ve had good success with Accerlade but am now considering e-Fuel…

What Sports Drink works for you?

Thanks for your feedback…I’m finding this forum very helpful…

I used to be a gel user, but now I am hooked on tropical fruit cytomax, and sometimes use gu
.

You don’t use gel/water and a sports drink?

by sports drink, if you mean Gatorade, NO, that is not an option, way too much sugar for a drink

I use maltodextrin, and Gu or Powergel when I need a quick hit

sometimes I mix water into the 6-7 hour rides when I eat solid foods
.

I have always used a gel/gu with water…then later Accerlade drink…

Just considering other drinks now…like e-Fuel…

I’ve had good success with Carbo Pro and Cytomax (Peachy Keen). Quit using gels and solids.

Dare I mention InfinIT again? Why not go custom for hardly any more money?

depends on your distance, for me shorter rides, races up to a half IM it’s Hammer HEED (primarily Maltodextrin, minimal sugar, good electrolyte balance, Mandarin flavor is best) (cytomax or say PBar endurance are other good options) along with Hammer Gel or sometimes Gu. There are lots of good sports drinks out there, if you are primarily looking for hydration and electrolytes and are getting most of your calories from gel Ultima Replenisher is a nice sports drink as well.

For longer workouts try Hammer Perpetuem, or possibly Carbo Pro or Spiz.

LOL, I wouldn’t even know where to start in mixing my own custom drink…I’ll check out the site more though…

I like E-fuel and for longer races or training, I’ll add Carbo-Pro. I’ve also been using Infinit that I really like…just a little short on the calories, though. My significant other really likes Cytomax (tropical fruit and peachy keen), which has worked really well for her.

I just tried Perpetuem this weekend for the first time on a long ride. How do you people drink that stuff? NASTY. It makes me long for lemon-lime Accelerade - something I never thought I’d say. I think I’m going to stick with my PB Endurance (I seem to need a lot of electrolytes) and maybe use Accelerade gel or a protein bar on long rides.

well I never said it tasted great;) That’s one of the reasons I usually stick to HEED unless I’m going really long. You get used to it though and it does work really well for longer workouts or racing. Try Spiz or Carbo Pro as other options to Perpetuem. I’ve pretty much phased it out of my training for anything under a 3 hour ride though.
