I was talking with someone at work today and he mentioned that he used Cytomax when he works out. He swears by the stuff and claims that it allows him to more big sets because it helps buffer lactic acid. He is a power lifter, not a triathlete, so our experiences are a little different.
Anyone out there actually use Cytomax and experience the lactic buffeing effects? Is this legit or just BS?
Not a scientific answer, but I feel that I recover faster and better since I switched from Gatorade to Cytomax. It also seems like I can go longer on the bike before getting tired. I don’t think what I experienced is only psychological, but I have not data to prove it, just my own feelings. I would suggest that you give it a try and make up your own mind.
I think sports drinks are very much a personal taste and what works for you might not for another. OK so there are GOOD and BAD products but the good ones all have the major substances.
Some years back I was sponsored by a company producing top quality sports drinks and energy bars. (Excellent stuff to this day). BUT I just couldn’t go for longer than 2 hours racing with the stuff in my stomach. I ALWAYS cramped (It worked a treat for a friend!). I have a strange metabolism and that might be the reason, but I guess the point I’m trying to make is that there are good products out there but you need to try them and make sure it works for you.
I’m using Cytomax too, BUT I also use other products (I prefer one energy bar over another and might choose a diff. energy gel again). These days I mix and match products more than I used to.
I guess the golden rule is to train with the stuff under conditions that will help you make more informed decisions yourself!
John,
As someone else stated, sports drinks are very personal. I have used cytomax for many years and it is my drink of choice. I personally find the taste not to be so sugary or salty, particularly after many hours. For IMs I actually carrier a bottle strengthened many times which I then dilute in my front bottle so I am mixing my own Cytomax on the fly. I say just try it and find what works for YOU!
Good Luck,
I use it. I love it. I prefer “Tangy Orange” with “Herbal Boost” (guarana/caffeine and ginseng). Maybe it’s all in my head, but I do feel that it enhances my ability to ride and run much longer than without it (particularly on brick days). All that “scientific” ad copy on the canister certainly makes me feel like I’m doing “35%” better at a lot of things, which isn’t “50%” bad.
