Sport specific spam lists

I just got spammed (for about the 40th time today). but this is one of a newer set of spams i’ve been getting, spams that are sport specific.

“Thanks for wanting to join the Mind Running Team.”

The Mind is a mental health charity (apparently) out of the UK. did anyone else get this? i wouldn’t mind trying to figure out what company i do business with that sells its email list in contravention to its privacy policy. perhaps we have enough readers such that if one of us posts a new sport specific spam we can share notes and see if we can figure out who it is.

i’m trying to think of who it was, but some company just got fined a lot of money for selling quite a small email list in contravention to its stated policy company. the Federal Something Commission fined it.

for me, it could be road runner sports, or USAT, or active, or tricalifornia, or slowtwitch, or elite racing. off the top of my head, those are the big lists i’m on. i’m pretty sure it’s not slowtwitch.

or is there some other set of mechanics at work and i just don’t see it?

Lots of ways to get on a spam list. For example your email address is on your domain name record for slowtwitch. It would also be easy to write a program to mine the forum for email addresses in the profiles. There are also a number of programs for pulling email addresses out of web pages.

Google finds several hits for you email address; http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=slowman@slowtwitch.com

Not saying you have not been sold out, which is also common.
