What did folks think about the finale of Entourage last night?
For me it was a little too tidy in terms of finding a happy resolution for all of the main characters. I thought Ari’s storyline was the biggest surprise twist – seems like they may be leaving the door open for a spin-off series centered around him…
Otherwise looking forward to the start of the next “Bored to Death” season!
Adding the “Spoiler” tag for the DVR / TiVo crowd…
Cliff notes version:
Vince has 1 date / hook-up with the blond journalist and they decide to get engaged and fly off to Paris to marry the very next day – (dumbest move ever!)E decides to resign from his own agency to move back to NY to be involved with his baby to be even though Sloan doesn’t want to get back togetherDrama, Turtle and Vince all try to convince Sloan to give E another chance; she doesAri decides to try to win back his wife; resigns his job / ownership of the agency to fly off to Italy with her to mend his relationshipLast scene – While lounging on the Italian riviera, Ari gets a call from the Chairman of the studio conglomerate offering Ari his own position as a Chairman/CEO “God” of the entertainment industry since he’s ready to retire…One schmalzy thing after the other…
The entire final season was a mess, but the finale was far and beyond the worst episode this show has ever put out. I was rolling my eyes the entire time and laughed multiple times when the scenes got obnoxious.
SPOILERS BELOW
No way it should have been 30 minutes (actually, clocked in at 28 minutes). You had 8 seasons of character development, and they tried to pack way too much into that small window. Should have easily been 1 hour, possible 1.5 hours for closure.
They completely ignored some key storyline that didn’t get closure as well; Drama’s movie deal, Turtle’s restaurant venture. Lots of other supporting acts that had been on the show since season one didn’t even show up in the last episode (Vince’s PR manager, among others).
Why leave out the 24 hour date that Vince and his (now) fiance had? The woman hated him, what in the hell happened in that 24 hours that made her go from hate to marriage? I thought that story line was complete and utter BS and really lost all hope at that point.
Auri’s rants in the office were some of the best parts of the show. They spent 5 minutes on his paintball rant in season 6 when he bought out his competitors agency, why spend only 30 seconds on his exit from his life’s work?! I thought to myself “is this really it?!”
pregnant Sloan never found out (for sure) if E really hooked up with her step mother, but took him back anyways. Not completely implausible, but still pretty brash move on the writers part seeing as just days before she was moving 2500 miles away due to her hatred for E’s actions.
I have many other gripes, but those were the main ones. The show used to be great, but this season was by far my least favorite. Probably the worst season finale I have ever seen
…alternate ending – Sloan finds out E banged her father’s ex-wife while claiming to want to reconcile with and get back together and punts him in the shorts.
Sloan’s father then hunts E down and keeps his promise to shoot him dead.
Vince gets shot down once and for all by the journalist she’s she’s obviously too smart for him.
Drama’s show with Dice becomes a smash hit and for once he’s the successful actor in the family.
For me it was a little too tidy in terms of finding a happy resolution for all of the main characters. I thought Ari’s storyline was the biggest surprise twist – seems like they may be leaving the door open for a spin-off series centered around him…
I was thinking they could do a spin off with Ari too but I could also see them all coming back in a couple of years.
What was the reason for ending the show? It’s not like any of the main characters have these massively successful acting careers. WTF is Kevin Dillon or Jerry Ferrara going to do now? The only one that you might see on TV / in a movie again is Jeremy Piven.
Every episode of the show from the first season should have been 1 hour long.
This season seemed very “hurried”, like they couldn’t wait to get to episode 8 and be done with it.
I really like(d) the show, but I am kinda pissed that it ended. Here are some of my alternate endings:
The journalist chick gives Vince AIDS (or maybe some other STD that isn’t so horrible). Vince and Magic Johnson team up and find a cure.
We find out that Sloan and E get married. 8 months later she gives birth to Lamar Odom’s baby.
Turtle realizes that being a fat, white kid that loves sneakers is no way to go thru life. He takes up triathlon and finishes IM Hollywood alongside Jennifer Lopez.
Ari gets arrested for molesting farm animals while in Greece (or wherever the heck he and his wife are). BTW - does anyone know what his wife’s name is? And Dana Gordon marries Lloyd just to get back at Ari.
Billy Walsh marries Sasha Grey. He ends up dying choking on a mound of her bush and vomit.
Melissa is Mrs. Gold’s first name. Ari said it a few episodes ago (only time it was mentioned) when she was with Flay.
The ass shot was what we’ve all been waiting 8 years for. About. Damn. Time.
It finished as I expected, all of them going out on top and happy. The main characters were the focus and Turtle/Drama were left out to dry as far as learning about their futures.
In the movie do they get invited to Dubai by a Sheik, and while they are there one of them decides to have sex on the beach getting him arrested by the religious police, and the next day when they are forced to starting paying for their 15K a night hotel room out of their own pocket they decide to leave and return to America?
Ari hands over the keys ‘so to speak’ to Babs… later on he has a final meeting w/Lloyd and encourages him to stay on – despite the crack - “You’re like the gay son I never wanted…”
