I never used to feel silly about this. Last night, though, I spit in my goggles when I got in the pool just like I always do and was suddenly embarrassed to have done so. Not because anyone saw me (I think there were two other people swimming at the time). I just felt stupid. I remember hearing that spitting in goggles keeps them from fogging up. It really doesn’t. Besides, they usually get a tiny amount of water in them at some point, so it really doesn’t matter if they fog up a bit. Anyway, it occurred to me just how ridiculous and kind of gross I must look every time I jump in the water. So I’m not going to spit in my goggles anymore.
I’m a freediver and scuba diver and have spit in my goggles and masks for years.
Believe it or not, it does prevent fogging, but only for some people. Not sure what it is, but some people’s saliva doesn’t have what it takes to prevent fogging. If anyone knows the reason for this I’d love to know.
Toothpaste. After spending the last 15 years scuba diving, its the best thing. No For designed more a regular mask works good too. But, toothpaste seems to be the best thing I’ve found.
I think i could be the only jerk who actually uses the speedo(or other type) defogger spray Its lasted forever and my goggles never fog, fredly or not.
I went snorkeling with a diver who told me that it is the protein in your spit that keeps the lens from fogging. Maybe some people don’t have enough protein in their spit…
Every tyr, AND Speedo that I have ever owned fogged up within the first two laps of using them. So I spit in them before I start every swim. Never really thought if other thought it was gross or not. I thought thats just what you did to keep them clear. I pride myself in good personal hygiene, but I must have a little grossness in me afterall.
