I know there was a thread on this from last winter, but now that these tapes have been out for a while does anyone have any recommendations of one version of the base builders over the others. I have the original Time Trial one which is 60 min and have ordered Tough Love, the 3 hour one, so I am looking for something in between and to use during the coming winter months. So, anyone out there have a preference of one base builder? Thanks
I have several, but I like one 90 minute version. It has mental toughness or festival of pain or something like that in the title. It’s a time trial interval thing.
Used 17.0 Aero Base Bldg II last winter. Its about 75 minutes. Basically good with diversity. Seemed to keep the motivation up.
I bought Aero Base Builder I and IV and I don’t like them. There’s only so much even Troy Jacobson can do to make steady state aerobic intervals interesting.
I am a big Spinervals fan–own 8 others, including Tough Love (my favorite!). What I have done for base building in the winter is to string together 2 or 3 of the lower-intensity workouts that are all under an hour (like 2.0 Sweating Buckets, 1.0 Ride Strong, 12.0 Recharge, and 8.0 Recovery & Technique) and maybe throw in 11.0 Big Gear Strength. Or sometimes if I’m short on time, I’ll take just one of the lower-intensity workouts and add 30 minutes of endurance-paced riding on the front and back end for a total of about 2 hours.

Go with #16 or 17. Both are great workouts, about 90minutes and not too boring. The gist : #16 has sets of 5,4,3,2 min intervals and #17 has 20min of 1,2,and 3 min intervals. All at a lower heart rate.
My shirt is loaded with sweat after each. I prefer #17.
Indoor training will never be extremely exciting… But it beats nothing at all.
Good Luck
I have AB I. I use it now as a recovery workout, when I’m on call and can’t go riding on the road. I’ll use it this winter as a base builder when I can’t go out.
I just focus on maintaining rpm to keep from being totally bored. Although, a stand up comic performing during the longer intervals might be nice.
