Any feedback on the Stealth Carbon Wheelset for racing training? I like the PBO spoke ride from previous models. These seem to be an improvement in weight and aerodynamics. Do you need to use cork brake pads?
Spinergy is a sponsor of our cycling team, I use the Stealth SS for TT’s and flat races. Quite a few guys have the PBO model and they seem to be working well, unlike the previous model (Tilium) which had problems with cracking and truing. It has an aluminum brake surface so no special pads needed.
Run, don’t walk, run away. The rims are very nice, ride well and stay true. The hubs, however, are steaming turds. Back wheel bearings began to grind after 300km, then the freehub seized - making the ride home quite interesting. The front hub bearings packed it in about 200km later. They are now in a box in my closet waiting to be shipped back to the Canada for warranty - then sold at a big discount to someone else. Have Zipp 404s coming in a week, meanwhile riding my Velomax. I don’t believe my experience with Spinergy is unusual, I just thought I’d get a “good” set.

I am not aware of anyone locally having any bearing issues with the spinergy, I know I havent, but I only use the wheels for certain races. Some guys train on them all the time without any problems.
I also own a set of wheels with white industry hubs (Reynolds) and have had bearing issues with both front and rear wheels. That obviously means that Reynolds wheels must be terrible…
Obviously your mileage may vary. The problems with Spinergy hubs/bearings are quite well known by dealers and users I have spoken with, I only bought them because a friend’s shop was unloading them at a great price - as I said I thought I might get a good set and I was wrong. I guess I should have made my point more clear…why buy the Spinergys when there are so many other better wheels out there? Some of which may even have reasonable customer service? Have you tried Spinergy’s…it’s nonexistent.
And your point about Reynold’s wheels is somewhat lost on me…no it doesn’t mean Reynolds wheels are crap, but it may mean White Industries hubs are.
I broke two sets of tiliums both the old and the newer versions. I hope they have corrected these problems but I’m very wary of returning to any brand once I’ve been disapointed.
