Spinergy Rev-X vs. Mavic Cosmic Carbone

Anybody logged any miles on the two for comparison? If so, what are your thoughts/observations? Also…does anybody know the weight of a set of 700c Rev-X clinchers? The Carbone’s are tubulars and they come in at about 1995 g…just looking to compare that aspect. I’ve been racing on Rev-X’s for a couple years and I’m consiering the Carbone’s as a replacement. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Francois. Yes, I’m a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on these wheels largely due to the weight spec. I really have no complaints about the Rev-X’s…my only concern is that they’re not getting any younger and I had a tough time finding the necessary parts to rebuild the rear hub when the bearings crapped out last year. I wouldn’t be considering the Carbone’s (mainly due to the cost) except for the fact that I found a great deal on a set. Again, thanks for your thoughts. MT

We have a trade in program where you can trade in your old Spinergy wheels for newer models. It may help with the cost.

I’d be interested in trading in my Rev-X 650s for a pair of Tilliums. How’s the program work?

I owned a couple of pairs of Rev-X wheels in the past, one 650c and one 700c. I only weight 145 and both sets eventually developed cracks were the spokes meet the rims. Also the 700c’s flexed alot until I added the stiffeners between the spokes. They are really heavy and I was real slow to accellerate with them on hilly courses. The rear wheel is heavier than the disc I currently use. I now have a set of Zipp 303’s and there is ZERO comparison. Another consideration is there have been quite a few spoke failures on the Rev-X wheels and when you only have 4 you eat asphalt really fast. That prompted me to get rid of mine. There is a website that lets you read all about the different accidents.

go to your local shop. Tell them you want to trade in your wheels. They contact us. We give them a special trade in price. They (assuming you have a good relationship with them) pass the savings on to you. Let me know if you have any trouble.

Paul,

I don’t live in North America. As far as I know we don’t have a Spinergy dealer on this entire island. Maybe there’s one in the Pacific Rim region, but not that I know of.

Guess I could try to exchange them when I visit the US next time, during which time I’ll also be sending my cracked Trek 5500 frame back through a dealer.

email me offline and I will work it out with you directly
