Spin bike setup

How should I best setup a universal “Spinning” bike for 2x a week class? It is the standard adjustable bike and is a one hour spin class including standing hills, seated hills, jump ups etc… Should I just set the seat height based off of my tri bike? Use KOPS for seat fore/aft movement? Set front height at comfortable level? Or do I need to get more technical? Any suggestions would be great!

Watch out - you’re going to get some replies saying that you shouldn’t be spining and that you need to toughen up and ride outside…

Personally, when I spin, I setup on comfort but at the same time, try to set it up as similar as possible to my actual bike.

I set the bike up like you describe.

For the bars, I set them at about seat level.

Let um fire away. Riding at 6am or 8pm in the dark doesn’t seem like a very smart idea. I still get outside 2x a week and hit the “drainer” 2x a week as well.

I set it up as close as I can to my tri bike set-up (and it gets pretty darn close with the Lemond Rev Masters, not so much with the Schwinn Spinners). I use a towel folded up to catch sweat and pad my elbows, and just ride like I’m in a TT or so…

I set mine up to ride outside.

I put the bars as low as they go, seat as far foward as it will go and the seat height where it is comfortable. As someone else mentioned, I use a towel and put my elbows on the bars.

I am sure I am gonna get fired on for this one too, but whatever. I teach a few spin classes a week at my local gym and have gone through the Jonny G program. Just set it up just like anyother bike. I do the samething with my towel and ride it like I am in aero bars. I have my class doing it too. They love it. I usually end a 60 minute class with about a 5 minute or so TT to finish things off before we cool down.

Yeah…living in Chicago you get to train outside year round …HAHAHAHHAA …idiot
.

However you set up the bike, just make sure you put chocolate milk in you water bottle so that you will be able to keep up during the class.

Set seat height the same as your bike. Set the fore-aft of the seat so that the bars feel like they are about like your bike. Set bar height to your own taste. I set them low so that I get a good workout in the “way bent over” position – the way that I race. I put a rolled-up towel on the bars so I can ride with my forearms on them, imitating aero bars.

No need to get it complicated. Your legs make circles; you get a good workout. It’s all good.

Oh he does… he does some hardcore training too cause he can easily take turns at 25mph because of his great fitness level. Not to mention he does this in 3 feet of snow and ice. Hell he may make a run at The Sergio.
