I know that many of you don’t like to hear it, but the off season is nearly upon us. After realizing that new sexy bike would only make me look fast and not go fast, I am soliciting advice on how to spend some of my hard earned coin on the engine.
Background - Good swimmer, Descent cyclist, shi!!y runner.
Put shoes on, step out door and run. Ditch the bike for a while and swim three times a week and train to do a marathon. Nothing like getting the milage up in the 50s per week to get the run speed up there.
Testing my before and after hemocrit - some non responders also benefit, according to my coach, but it can be worth 1 min faster for my 40k TT due to a higher hemocrit - without EPO, weird though, sleeping indoors in a tent, and $30 more per month in electricity costs
.
Add a lot of nice cold-weather clothing for running and biking outside. Also, some sport snow-shoes would help. Hit the trails after a heavy snow with the snow-shoes. Those will give you an incredible workout which will help both your run and bike. Plus it will get you outside in the dead of winter.

One of North America’s largest ultramarathons. Also includes a 3-person 50K Relay and a One-Loop (10.8 Mile) “Fun Run.” There are discounted fees for 19 and under relay entrants. The Kekionga Trail is a gently rolling trail; easy enough to be a good first-time trail course; technical enough to give an advantage to seasoned trail runners. Measure yourself against time, distance…and weather! We’re known for the great post-race foods - particularly our array of soups.
treadmills are running last I checked. FWIW, I do almost all of my intensity running on a TM.
I thought I was the only one that did that. All my “running friends” laugh at me but it is so easy to quantify the workout on a TM. I’m happy to see that I’m not alone.
