He annouced it after dropping out of IMFL. He seems to be headed towards IM broadcasting and did the 70.3 champs web broadcast.
Spencer is over with us in the UK at the moment working on a few interesting projects .
He certainly isnt retiring though hes very probably moving away from having a big Ironman focus .
Theres a lot of exciting things happening specifically the forthcoming launch of his S2 clothing brand - hes got a full week in Italy next week working with one of Italys leading manufacturers to finalise the first wave of garments . Should be available from February .
Hes also going to be coaching 4-5 athletes , including world age group champion Fiona Ford who is moving to Ironman next year , plus Scott Neyedli whos just turning pro after his 9.00 hawaii finish after only 2 years in the sport .
Finally , he will be spearheading and fronting up the planet x group of pro athletes including Gordo Bryn , Cat Morrision , plus 2 soon to be announced additions, - one a leading German and the other a fast running pro very close to slowtwitch readers hearts .
Whoa…I wonder who that very fast running pro might be? ![]()
Okay, im sure you are MUCH more familiar with Spencers plans than i but he did announce he was retiring after IMFL, didnt he? I should say that ironman.com reported that he announced that he was retiring. I guess that was retiring from IM? So should we expect to see him racing shorting style events like 70.3 or even OLY
I spoke to him at the after party at IMFL and to me it sounded like his future will be focused on the projects mentioned above and his schedule will be free of all racing.

Actually the whole Florida thing was somewhat blown out of proportion , Spencer was sat at the side of the road having justy scratched from the race , and said to the guy next to him , who happened to be one of the IM live guys , something along the lines
"You know Ive been doing this 20 years and , there are times in a race when you need to go real deep , and its getting real hard to keep going to those places , the body remembers the pain . Im not sure I can do ths any more "
At the moment the plan is simply for Spencer to do some racing and just enjoy the sport . But make no mistake hes never going to be content to coast round , hes a fierce competitor and will be wanting to win races .
Knowing Spencer’s style that will be a very “Italian” range of clothing. I assume we are not talking race/training gear? The menswear range would be very chic!
As long as it’s not bloody pink. I want to have a more mafia look to tri clothing…
"I assume we are not talking race/training gear? The menswear range would be very chic! "
You assume wrong - were definitely talking race wear , including offering also sublimated team clothing - trivest , trisuits , bib shorts , ss jerseys , ls jerseys .
Were trying to keep Spencer away from the pink , but he keeps insisting “a little bit” of pink should be on there .
Given that the US dollar is plummetting against the euro , its looking like US prices are going to be pretty high , but were talking about the highest quality Italian garments produced by a small manufacturer that also produces for Assos , Craft , Odlo etc .
So you are saying Gordo, a person who seems to be Sergio and a leading German are going to be on Planet X bikes? Taking advantage of some of STs favorite people ![]()
Wow, bye bye Cervelo mafia, STers, follow your faithful leaders to Planet X!!!
Don’t let him do that pink thing Dave…
Who do we think is the leading German? I think it might be Jurgen Klinsman.
Not sure who the German is, but I do remember a few weeks ago when someone got a Planet-X Paulo (Sergio’s coach) commenting on here that it was a nice frame…and he is a guy who tends to be pretty critical.
Yesterday he was looking for a full page ad from the newest Triathlete magazine with Sergio in it asking if someone could scan it onto ST, but never said what the ad was for. I am wondering if it is a Planet X at and he’s doing a little bit of undercover marketing for them ![]()

All good things come to those who wait - all will be revealed about the 2007 athletes were working with in 10 days as were having a peak district boot camp training weekend on the 14th-16th before Spencer flies back to sunny Florida .
Gordo obviously wont be there as hes enjoying the sun in Australia and is currently training his nuts off in preparation for the january epic camp .
Steffi Graf?
Steffi Graf?
Michael Schumacher is looking for a new team apparently…
Are we ever going to be able to get your carbon tri frame as just a frameset? Please?
A peak district boot camp!?*&! WOT! In December!!! Are you guys trying to emulate Riis and make your athletes suffer so much that they bond like superglue??
Fine for cyclists braving the early season flanders weather but not quite what you’d expect from your average ponce triathlete…
Now who said pink was for girls ![]()
SteveMc
Yup , december boot camp in the peak district ! Lets sort the men from the boys , and dont ever call Spencer a ponce !
Boot camp with rides lead by renowned northern hardman Wayne Randle , offroad running courtesy of tough guy specialist Hywel Davies , and of course early morning open water swimming in the lovely clear waters of ladybower reservoir
