I think that I said this before in another post on Smith, but he sure seems to have had a bad, dark cloud following him around for the last few years. Despite all that has been said, you have to feel a bit sorry for the guy. I recall meeting and interviewing him when he was the Junior World Champion back in the early 90’s and at the time, it was generally regarded, that he had just about the best talent and fitness that anyone had ever seen of any triathlete to date. Only greatness was predicted for him. Unfortunately, after such an ambitious start it has been a bit of a rough road for him for the last number of years.
I feel his pain. Literally. I was hit last Sunday by an SUV driving down the wrong side of the road. I hope he makes a quick & complete recovery.
I wonder if there are any statistics on how many bikers get hit every year in different regions. From what my ER nurse told me, it seems to be a weekly occurance in my area - Northern NJ.
what a mare…I live in the same town and trying to bike here is an absolute joke…the (unofficial) bike map of new jersey doesn’t even suggest any rides for this county…hope he (characteristically)bounces back
.
man, that really sucks…and I was looking forward to him kicking ass at Ironman CDA in a few weeks. Talk about bad luck. Perhaps we’ll see him out at one of the Euro Ironmans later in the summer like Switzerland to get a Kona slot.
