Specialized Trivent shoe?

I am very interested in this shoe. I have been in an old pair of Carnacs that I use with a Superfeet insole. My question is can I still use the Superfeet or is that overkill with the whole “body geometry claim”?

Anyone use this shoe with their own inserts?

I have been wondering the same thing! Anyone have an answer?

I thought about it and tried on a pair big enough for my inserts. In the end, I decided to just wear the shoe as-is. It’s been perfect.

I have this shoe - it is one of the ONLY bike/tri shoes I have worn with no discomfort - or without having to either remove - or replace the insole with a custom fit.

Love this shoe - it is a little narrow - but still accomodates wide feet (i.e. mine)

I have a pair that i’ve done two IMs in as well as a good portion of training and have had no discomfort with.

I have a shoe fetish which translates into 9 pair of cycling/tri shoes. I wear the gray “cycling” superfeet" insole in all of them except for the Trivent which I got last month. That varus wedge/body geometry thing just may be more than just marketing hype. Surprisingly, I really can feel a difference.

FWIW, although I haven’t tried them with the Superfeet (no need) IMO it would be overkill.

I just got a pair of these as well and I’ve always used a special insert with my past cycling shoes. Like the others here have said, definitely not needed with these. The insert which comes with the shoe is amazing! Super comfy!!

I’ve found mine to be very comfortable with the original insole. There is kind of a shaped area on it to keep things aligned. I wasn’t looking for a carbon sole with new shoes, but $150 for a shoe of this quality and a carbon sole, I think is a steal. Big heel loop and venilation. I liked that two strap closure which I could only find is the SIDI shoes and these. Coming from a road background, I guess I’m used to having my feet secured pretty well all through the shoe and these do the trick.

I concur with all that has been said here, but I do have one issue.

Has anyone had a problem getting into these while they are clipped on the bike? I find that they are more difficult to get into than my the TR01’s I had previously. I find that when I step on top the shoe, prior to slipping my foot into them that the shoe velco closes the shoe flat.

Anyone else have this same issue?

Thanks

Oddly enough, I’ve had exactly the opposite issue. While the TR01s can open much more, they tended to also be more cumbersome when clipped into my Speedplays. So when I would try to get in them on the go, I would be fumbling around and slowing down. The Trivents, on the other hand, I can get into in one movement, and it’s been that way since day one.

I agree with the other posts - you probably won’t want your insoles. Specialized’s BG insole in the Trivent seems to work pretty well. If you do decide to use your Superfeet, I can’t see why that would not work.

I tend to step on top of the shoe to get the bike moving when I leave T1. The velcro tends close on it self and flatten the shoe out locked in that place with velcro.

When you say you are able to get into the shoes in one movement, are you saying that you are able to slide into the shoes without steping on top of the shoe?

The larger velcro strap doesn’t close when I am riding on it out of T1, the toe strap will but it’s not closing tight enough to matter. With the Shimanos, I was always having to deal with the strap getting in the way, or completely getting my foot in wrong and struggling with it. Part of it was definitely the side the strap closes on, I had trouble getting used to closing it the “right” way. The trivent closes in the opposite direction that most other tri shoes do, which happens to be the way I seem to prefer.
