Specialized Transition vs Cervelo P2C

So I am upgrading my frame and fork for next year and have the opportunity to get a 2009 Transition Pro or a Cervelo P2C. Just wondering what people though about which was a better frame. This bike will have to last me a few years before my wife will let me upgrade again, any advice is appreciated.

Both companies are great, both bikes are close enough aerodynamically for it to not make any difference, so see which you can get the best price on and that fits you best and go with it.

If you go for the 2009 Transition, make sure it’s heavily discounted. Specialized actually reduced prices on the 2010 models, so small discounts on 2009 models aren’t necessarily good deals.

That is correct. The new transition frameset goes for $1800 including brakes and stem (a really cool stem actually, with an inside shim that makes it adjustable from +16 to -8, without the clunky look).

I test rode both… A medium in the Transition, and a ‘54’ in the P2C. Just an FYI, the P2C felt longer in the top tube.
You should test ride both and see which you prefer. You also might want to consider what components come with each. The Transition Pro is outfitted quite nice. The P2C I tested had pretty low end parts/bars on it…

Thanks for all the replies. The Transition Pro is brand new and comes with brakes, stem, seatpost for $1150, which seems like a pretty good deal. The cervelo P2C I would be getting used just frame, fork an seatpost. Either bike I get will have the same components - I will be taking them off my Felt S32 - Dura Ace 7800 crank, ceramic BB, Ultegra front and rear derailleurs and East EA90 Aero wheelset. My aero bars do suck and I’ll be replacing them, which I do have one more qeustion about. I need to stay around $200 (I know that is cheap) should I go with the profile T2 Wing and aluminum cobra bars or Vision base bar with similar/equivalent aero bar?

Thanks for all the replies, but I still haven’t gotten any firm answers one way or another. Given the same components (since they are coming off my current bike) which frame is better, Transition Pro or P2C. Thanks!

They are both great. Get the one that fits. If you can’t test ride them, get the one you think looks better. Seriously.
There were a few of them (Transitions) being used at the World TT Championships last week, looked pretty sweet.

i had the same choice but since im a tall guy, i went with the 58 p2c. the transition, even in xl, was too small

2008 I rode a DA P2C, this year Transition Pro, Hands down Specialized, such a great frame!

The reason you’re not getting a firm answer is that depending on your body type, riding style and other individual fit characteristics one could be better than the other. Long legs - the Spec may be better, Long torso - the Cervelo may be better.

As other people said these are very different fitting bikes. For instance, I would be on a 51cm P2c with a 1cm spacer on a low headset cap and a -10* 9cm stem to replicate my current position. Pretty good if you ask me.

However, on a Specialized I would need a small with a 12-13cm stem or a medium with a downward sloping stem(which I don’t think you can do because of the brake). As cool as I think the Transition is, it just wouldn’t be the perfect fit.

Bought the transition…not looking back. Thanks for all your replies.
