Just picked up my Transition Expert and about to spend the weekend getting used to it.
Question - is there any way to adjust the centering of the brakes?? Or are they installed such that they will always self center when put under tension? Soif you have a wheel that is slightly out of dish, is your only option to open the brakes up using the barrel adjuster??
Thanks!
The brakes on my trans have been a constant source of frustration. Love the frame, but the brakes drive me crazy. I have found the only way of adjusting the width is to play with the barrel and also the length of the cable going through the triangular clip. This requires a lot of patience as getting your hands in there and holding both the clip and the cable while getting the length right can be tricky.
+1 Brakes can be difficult to adjust. The front is not too bad after I figured out how to keep the spring from holding. The pre-load adjusters (allen) are minimally effective, as the springs appear to be unequal. The rear brake is a take mushy probably from the full length housing, and adjustment is a bit difficult due to the chainrings. Once they are adjusted they work well.
There is an allen screw on both side of the calipers that adjusts the centering. If your wheel is really off center and this will not resolve the problem completely you could try putting in some spacers beteween the brake pad holder and the outer caliper.
