Specialized SHIV Video w/Nic Sims

SIAP, but I just found this on youtube:

Don’t worry, you won’t get rick rolled.

This is a must see for anyone interested in the Shiv.

Some quick highlights from the video:

  • available late spring 2010 probably only as a module

  • it’s light: about 16.5 lbs., built w/Zipp disc and 808 front
    .

Thanks for the vid! Anyone know what’s inside that big nose cone? May be a good place for hydration storage.

That was very, very cool. I wonder what the production color scheme will look like. I actually hope they keep the “S-Works” monniker on the down tube. Just a beautiful bike. I’m looking forward to seeing one in person next season.

The shop manager for my LBS just returned from a Specialized dealer expo in Utah and claims that the MSRP on the Shiv module (frame and S-works crank) will be in the ball park of 10K-12k. Can anyone confirm.

I think it looks great as is. I also like the “S-Works” logo vice “Specialized” logo. IT looks mean in all black.

I saw Cancellara’s red one, but think it looks better in plain black.

Well, it looks like the front brake is in part of that nose cone. Probably too small for a hydration system and I would guess that extra water weight in the nose cone would affect front-end handling.

the guy in the this vide (below) says it’s just a TT…not tri setup. so i assume the seat angle is slack then? (if he knows that he’s talking about of course.)

No hydration in the nose section, it is where the brake mech and bracketing is retained. I got a look inside, but was sworn to secrecy… it’s highly bad-ass engineering marvel that engineer Chris D’Alusio came up with. I spoke with three of the five primary engineers behind the Shiv at their press launch nearly a month ago—Mark Cote, D’Alusio and Luc Callahan, and they broke down the bike a bit… might provide some added clarity. Fun/fast bike to ride.

You will find that video here.

Whoa.

I just got a great look at that bike down at my local bike shop. Two of the designers were dropping by and had their bike with them.

It is simply awesome!

Firstly, let me congratulate you on your usernamed. Very refined.

Secondly, holy Hell. $10-12K would put this over twice the price of the next-priciest TT rig out there. I can’t imagine the Giant (which also has the integrated stem/nosecone) going for nearly that much; in fact, I think I saw that the Giant will be available as various levels/options including some relatively budget-conscious ones. 'Course that bike also has some of the most heinous, poorly-though-out cable routing I’ve ever seen, but still.

Finally, will these super-integrated front ends still be all that when you hang a drinking system on your aerobars? Will someone come out with an “integrated” front drinking system that fits with these nosecones?

Here is a look from the underside with the wheel removed.

I am very skeptical of this price point, especially for just a frame and crankset. I will wait to hear if someone else chimes in with specifics before passing judgement. However, Specialized has shown over its history is very proud of their products and their prices show that.

The guy in the video is Coach Lee from Bodyzen…

We haven’t released any financials on the bike yet, so we can’t confirm that.

i don’t believe it will be that much, but you do have to realize that the module includes the frame, seatpost, crank, as well as the bars and brakes.
